Thursday, June 22, 2023. Lance Alleweireld will never forget this day. The young man from Heuvelland, also known as the Krak van Heuvelland, had the time of his life during the Clarebout Potatoes Shakedown in Nieuwkerke. Lance Alleweireld’s dream came true in collaboration with Club Superstage, Make-a-Wish, A&D Trucks & Trailers, Christ Vandamme and… Tom Boonen. Lance was given the chance to ride in a Porsche 997 GT3 on the Nieuwkerke stage alongside… cycling champion Tom Boonen. It was an incredible experience.
“The Porsche is my dream car and I really enjoyed this ride,” Lance said, impressed by the experience, especially since he had also been able to fly in the helicopter over the special stage just before it commenced.
“I had so much fun on this drive,” laughed Tom Boonen. “I heard Lance shout excitedly a few times. He enjoyed it, I’m sure. Me too, because it was my first experience with a Porsche on a rally stage. I know Porsches well from the track, but this is still something else. The Porsche has a lot more power than my Skoda Fabia Rally2, but you also have to take into account the increased breaking distance and the higher weight. I thought it was a great experience.”
