All the big guns present for the 6th Ypres Historic Regularity
The 6th Ypres Historic Regularity timed by Momento will get underway on Friday evening. Sint-Maartensplein in the historic centre of Ypres will be the place where the internationally renowned regularity gets underway. A strong field of participants will see 64 teams at the start, including the greatest specialists in this discipline.
The field will be led by Frenchman Christophe Baillet, last year’s winner, who will have Patrick Lienne in the navigator’s seat. Lienne, himself, was the winner in 2019 as Michel Decremer’s navigator. The Ford crew will be followed by six Porsche duos, led by father and son Geert and Cédric De Jaeger, Daniel Reuter and Robert Vandevorst and Yves Deflandre and Yves Noelanders. Deflandre and Noelanders won the event twice, in 2018 and 2022. Kurt Declerck and Aswin Pyck are there with their agile Porsche 914/4, followed by the 924 of the Germans Jörg Pöhlmann and Marc Stoll, who surprised many with their strong from last year. Mirko Savic and Christophe Pelckmans follow with their Porsche 911, ahead of Johnny Delhez and Baptiste Gengoux in their well-known Ford Escort Mk2, Michel Decremer and Jennifer Hugo in the Opel Ascona 400 and Willy Lux and Stéphane Heymans in the beautiful Lancia Fulvia HF.
As always, fans can admire a beautiful array of historic rally cars, ranging from the well-known and oldest car in the field the 1961 Apal Coupé of Patrick Van Remoortel, to the Lancia Delta Integrale from 1990 of Freddy Gevers.
The 6th edition of the Ypres Historic Regularity has 30 regularity stages this year, including 6 closed road stages. The rally starts at 6pm on Friday, after which the participants will complete 8 RTs, including a marathon stage, and 2 closed road stages in Boezinge. We expect a pleasant hustle and bustle in the picturesque Boezinge, where a service is planned between the two runs. On Saturday morning, the participants will stay longer in the Westhoek with two closed road stages in the centre of Mesen and Komen. In the afternoon, a long loop to Hainaut follows, after which the participants will finish in Ypres at around 4pm. Here the Winterbar in Yperley will provide a great atmosphere. The top 10 in the intermediate standings will have the chance to choose their starting position for the final stage on Sunday.
Traditionally, the final day of the Ypres Historic Regularity begins early with the 35 km Early Bird Stage, which takes place in the dark. Following a challenging final stage, the winners are anticipated to arrive at the podium at Sint-Maartensplein just before noon.
The public points will be announced on Thursday afternoon at noon, and during the race the race can be followed via Facebook Live on the Facebook page of the Ardeca Ypres Rally.
