Once again this year, Club Superstage and the event’s sporting directors, Bjorn and Jens Vanoverschelde, are enthusiastically joining forces for the Ypres Historic Regularity. With the eighth edition in the pipeline, the Ypres Historic Regularity remains one of the most respected and highly regarded historic regularity events in Europe. Be sure to mark Friday 4 December to Sunday 6 December in your diary for this not-to-be-missed event!
However, the first weekend of December isn’t just about admiring historic cars in Ypres. The brand-new Ypres E-Regularity, a regularity event reserved for electric vehicles, is making its debut at the same time. This year, for the first time, participants in the E-Regularity will have the chance to drive their own Ypres Regularity, and the race is also a candidate event for the FIA Eco Rally Cup.
Another new feature is the option to choose between a Gold Entry and a Silver Entry for both events. The Gold Entry remains the familiar all-inclusive package, whilst the Silver Entry omits certain options, making participation more affordable.
The Ypres Revival, a non-competitive road tour on Saturday 5 December with the start park and podium in the heart of Ypres, is also back on the programme. The concept for this category remains true to its successful formula, albeit this time featuring a double demonstration run on a brand-new Closed Road Stage…
Ypres Historic Regularity: 3 days of competition, 3 gravel stages, the return of the stages in Wallonia and brand-new Closed Road Stages
Behind the scenes, a great deal of hard work has been going on for some time on the programme for the upcoming edition. And the result is impressive! From a sporting perspective, we aim to provide participants with unforgettable moments once again. Plenty of competition with short liaison sections between the regularity stages, as well as the return of the muddy roads – often featuring spectacular water traps – in Wallonia, should ensure that boredom won’t set in any time soon in the cockpits. Complemented by three stages with a high proportion of gravel and two brand-new Closed Road Stages – one of which is on private terrain with a very slippery surface – it promises to be a spectacular edition. Both Closed Road Stages will, incidentally, be run twice.
Bjorn and Jens Vanoverschelde: “We have listened to the feedback from the drivers, who want a challenge behind the wheel wherever possible. But the co-drivers’ views have also been taken on board. Thanks to a new coefficient system, devised a few years ago by the late Joseph Lambert, we are convinced that it will not only be the high-powered vehicles that can compete at the front. The winner of this edition will be the result of the perfect combination of driver and… co-driver!”
Last but not least, we would like to add that, at the request of many participants, the administrative formalities prior to the race have been simplified, resulting in a more compact schedule on Friday. The administrative checks will not start until 1.00 pm, meaning teams no longer need to stay overnight on Thursday evening. What’s more, the administrative and technical checks will not finish until 4.30 pm, so participants only need to set aside time in their work diaries from Friday afternoon onwards.
With a more compact programme on Friday, revised entry packages and a challenging sporting programme, the 8th edition promises to be spectacular.
Ypres E-Regularity: a fully-fledged competition
As announced in a previous press release, this year we are hosting the Ypres E-Regularity for the first time. The E-Regularity gets underway on Friday evening with a Qualifying Stage (prologue) which will determine the starting order. On Saturday, they will lead the historic field, with 15 regularity stages on the programme. The third and final day will start for the E-Regularity participants at around 09:00, whilst the Historic participants set off earlier to contest the traditional Early Bird regularity stage…
The Ypres E-Regularity is therefore not simply a copy of the Historic version, but a fully-fledged competition with its own identity, its own roadbook and its own timing within the format of the FIA Eco Rally Cup. They will, however, experience the same fast-paced Ypres rhythm, with regularity tests mapped out on the most challenging roads and the same Closed Road Stages. The regularity tests with a high proportion of gravel, on the other hand, are reserved for the historic entrants so that the modern electric cars – mostly supplied by an importer – can be returned undamaged.
